James Bond actor Al Matthews dies at the age of 75 after severe sicknesses
The American actor, who spent much of his career working in the UK, was found dead at his retirement home in Spain on Sunday morning. Al lived at the Costa Blanca resort of La Zenia and was reportedly found lying on his bed by a neighbour, who called an ambulance. Medics and a doctor pronounced him dead at the scene. A cause of death is yet to be revealed but local reports claim Al battled severe illnesses over the years. Al was best known for his roles in Aliens, in which he played Gunnery Sergeant Apone, James Bond movie Tomorrow Never Dies, Grange Hill, The Fifth Element and Rough Cut, which starred Burt Reynolds. The New York-born star also appeared in Superman III in 1983 and Grange Hill, in which he appeared as a police chief. In addition to his career in entertainment, Al had served in the Vietnam War after signing up to the US Marine Corps. Among his 13 combat awards, was the Purple Hearts.
